Powerline Communication

Powerline communication is a technique for carrying data over already installed powerline. Powerline communication has significant advantages for households both in dense cities and urban area. Powerline communication can be used both for automation purposes (smart homes, automatic metering and telemetry) with low bit rate profiles and for internet and networking with broadband capability.

LNL's F Series PLM's

LNL's F series modems are low bit rate powerline modem operating in 85KHz-150KHz frequency band. F series modems communicate at up to 10Kbits data rate. F series are targeted at building and home automation applications. Every appliance that is connected to an outlet contributes line interference. Dimmer switches, motorized electrical appliances and computers introduce pulse interference. Therefore, F series modems utilize DPSK modulation together with error correction codes to increase resistance to noise. Features of F series devices are

  • Small size to fit even into plugs[1]
  • Communication speeds up to 10Kbits[2]
  • 2 analog sensor ports
  • 1 I2C port for communicating to several devices
  • 2 dedicated on/off type control outputs to drive relays
  • 2 dedicated PWM ports to drive servo or step motors[3]
  • Boxed or OEM versions for system integrators
  • DPSK modulation scheme for reliable communication

Applications

- Control of Home Appliances( Lighting, HVAC, Curtains, Windows, Doors)

- Instrumentation of sensors(Temperature, humidity, ambient light, pressure etc

- Automatic Meter Reading[4]
